Eminem, Cee Lo, Bruno Mars Lead Grammy Noms

Eminem’s album Recovery and his chart-topping duet with Rihanna “Love The Way You Lie” have garnered 10 Grammy nominations, with the MC up for Album, Song and Record of the Year. Eminem was the most-honored artist on the nominees list, which was released after “The GRAMMY Nominations Concert Live!!” aired on CBS on Wednesday night.

Going up against Eminem’s Recovery in the Album of the Year category is a somewhat surprising array of albums from pop, country and indie music: Lady Gaga’s elaborately crafted The Fame Monster, Katy Perry’s sugar-coated Teenage Dream, Lady Antebellum’s twangy Need You Now, and Arcade Fire’s grandiose The Suburbs round out the category.

The 2010 Grammy Nominees

A highlight of the Song and Record of the Year categories were the dual nominations garnered by Cee Lo Green’s “Fuck You” — cheekily referred to as “otherwise known as ‘Forget You'” when its honors were announced during the nomination show — nabbing nominations for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Green’s frustrated ode to an ex was also nominated for Best Urban/Alternative Performance and Best Short-Form Music Video, and “Fuck You” producers The Smeezingtons (who include Bruno Mars among their members) are up for the Producer of the Year trophy.

In the Record of the Year category, Green will be up against “Lie,” the B.o.B./Mars duet “Nothin’ On You,” Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ New York ode “Empire State of Mind” and Lady Antebellum’s late-night lament “Need You Now.” “Lie,” “Fuck You” and “Need You Now” are up against Ray LaMontagne and the Parish Dogs’ “Beg, Steal, or Borrow” and Miranda Lambert’s “The House That Built Me” in the Song of the Year category, which is handed out to the songwriters. The Best New Artist category is headlined by teen idol Justin Bieber, who played an acoustic version of “Favorite Girl” that was beamed in via satellite during Wednesday’s nomination concert. Going up against him is the Young Money-bred MC Drake, the outlandish Brits Florence + the Machine, the English folkies Mumford + Sons and the bassist-singer Esperanza Spalding.

Mars picked up seven nominations overall, while Jay-Z, Lady Antebellum, and Lady Gaga were each honored six times. One wrinkle to the multiple-nomination counts: Both Jay-Z and Eminem are nominated twice in the Best Rap Song category, with Jay being honored for “Empire State of Mind” and his collaboration with Swizz Beatz “On to the Next One” and Eminem up for “Love the Way You Lie” and his anthemic comeback single “Not Afraid.” The two will also face off in the Best Rap Album category.

The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards will air on Feb. 13, 2011.
