Eminem Appears in Court for Pre-Trial Hearing

December date set for next Eminem court appearance

Eminem (a.k.a. Marshall Bruce Mathers III) appeared in Macomb County, Mich., court Tuesday for a pre-trial hearing on charges of assault and possession of a concealed weapon.

According to Macomb County prosecutor, Carl Marlinga, Eminem’s court appearance was brief. There was a brief discussion with regard to the rapper’s bond agreement, which will allow him to continue plans to join the Anger Management Tour this fall with Limp Bizkit. Another pre-trial hearing was set for Dec. 8, at which time, Eminem will either enter a guilty plea to the charges or a start-date will be set for the trial.

As for the former, Marlinga reiterated first that as with anyone being tried, Eminem was presumed to be innocent, but should he enter a guilty plea the prosecutor’s office would not be willing to let the rapper off with a wrist-slap. “It’s going to be our position, that if he does plead guilty to one or more of the charges, we will seek some jail time,” Marlinga said.

According to Marlinga, a guilty plea could result in probation or a sentence that runs from seventeen months to five years.

Eminem’s hearing stems from a June 4 incident at the Hot Rock Café in Warren, Mich. Eminem allegedly struck John Guerra in the head with a pistol after seeing Guerra kissing his wife, Kimberly Mathers, outside the club. Eminem still awaits a hearing for a concealed weapons charges from a June 3 incident in which the rapper allegedly pulled a gun and made threats to an associate of rival Motor City hip-hop unit the Insane Clown Posse in neighboring Oakland County.
