Elton John will make his Emmys debut this year with a tribute to Liberace as part of the 65th annual awards show on September 22nd. Behind the Candelabra, an HBO Liberace biopic starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, is nominated for 15 awards.

The Emmy performance marks yet another step in John’s return since being diagnosed with appendicitis this summer. The illness, which required surgery, forced him to cancel a number of appearances including a performance at London’s Hyde Park.

John recently received the first Brits Icon award and has a new album, The Diving Board, due out on September 24th.

This year’s Emmy Awards will be host by Neil Patrick Harris on September 22nd. Harris and Breaking Bads Aaron Paul announced the nominations that were led by American Horror Story: Asylum with 17 nominations, with Game of Thrones, House of Cards and 30 Rock also nominated for multiple awards.
