Elton John Adds New North American Dates to Farewell Tour
UPDATE: Elton John will bring his farewell tour into 2020 after adding seven New York metropolitan area shows to his three-year farewell tour. Tickets for the gigs go on sale to the general public on September 27th. See the new dates below.
Elton John added 25 additional North American dates to his massive, three-year farewell tour. The new 2019 leg launches September 4th in Salt Lake City, Utah and concludes November 16th in Long Island, New York.
Tickets for these newly announced dates go on sale Friday, October 5th at 10 a.m. local time. An American Express pre-sale runs Thursday, September 27th at 10 a.m. local time through Monday, October 1st at 10 p.m. local time. A limited number of exclusive VIP packages will be available on Thursday, September 27th at 10 a.m. local time.
John kicked off the gargantuan “Yellow Brick Road” trek on September 8th in Allentown, Pennsylvania with a set featuring greatest hits and deep cuts alike. The bombastic arena production – which includes new videos from photographer David LaChapelle and animator Alan Aldridge – will currently run through December 15th, 2018 in Dallas Texas; after a break, the tour resumes January 11th, 2019 in Boise, Idaho.
The rock icon detailed his decision to retire from touring at an emotional press conference in January. “I’m 71. I can’t physically do the traveling anymore,” he said. “I want to be at home. I really want to spend time with my children at home. I’ve had an incredible life, but life is all about change.”
The musician didn’t completely rule out the possibility of a live residency, similar to Kate Bush’s 22-night 2014 stint at London’s Apollo Hammersmith. And he added that he “definitely [wants] to make a couple more albums” following the 300-date jaunt, which is set to wrap some time in 2021.
“That doesn’t mean I won’t still be creative,” John said at the event. “But I won’t travel any more … I don’t want to go out with a whimper. I want to go out with a bang … It’ll be the most produced, fantastic show I’ve ever done.”
