To mark of the ninth anniversary of Elliott Smith’s death yesterday, a group called Punk Rock Marthas revamped the mural that was featured on the cover of Figure 8, the last album Smith released before his death, NME reports. The mural, located on the side of Solutions Audio Video Repair on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, was repainted with some new additions to its black, red and white swirls. The white segment now contains messages from fans, the red segment features some of Smith’s lyrics, and the black segment is graced with paper cranes and a map of Smith’s former residences.

Punk Rock Marthas also held a benefit yesterday to raise money for Free Arts for Abused Children, which is among the beneficiaries to Smith’s estate. Smith died on October 21st, 2003. He was 34.
