Eddie Vedder Mulls Nixing Future October Shows to Avoid Cubs Conflict

Singer might miss history-making World Series run for Pearl Jam’s South American tour

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder toyed with the idea of forgoing future concerts in October if his beloved Chicago Cubs continue to play as well as they have during the 2015 baseball season and into the playoffs.

“It’s been a surprise,” Vedder told Fox Sports Midwest on Monday. “We’re touring and I have to leave before the World Series, we go down to South America. All I’m saying is that, the next few years, we’re not going to play in October. This year I didn’t think I’d have to worry about it!”

Vedder’s comments came ahead of the Cubs’ 8-6 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday, which gave them a 2-1 lead in their National League Division Series. Tonight, Tuesday, the Cubs ousted out their Midwest rivals and secured a spot in the National League Championship Series with a 6-4 win at Wrigley Field.

Should they beat the winner of the NLDS between the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers, the Cubs would advance to the World Series for the first time since 1945 (it’s been an agonizing 107 years since their last title in 1908). Because the Series is scheduled to start on October 27th, Vedder would have to do some frantic trans-continental flying in order to make the games, as Pearl Jam would ostensibly be prepping for a South American tour that begins November 4th in Santiago, Chile.

Despite such a cruel scheduling conflict, Vedder ultimately seemed at peace with not being able to watch his Cubs potentially make history (and fulfill an absolutely wild Back to the Future II prediction): “I hope we go to the World Series and I hope I miss the games,” he said. “It’d be a good problem to have.”
