It’s been three years since VH1 last aired an episode of their acclaimed performance series Storytellers, but the show will make its grand return 2015 with a new slate of artists and a tinkered format: For the first time, the concerts will be broadcast live on VH1. First up is singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, who will perform January 24th from Whelan’s in Dublin, Ireland.
Another addition to this season of VH1 Storytellers is that the musicians will pick and perform at a venue that has personal meaning to them. Sheeran chose Whelan’s because it was at that intimate theater where he watched Irish singer Damien Rice more than a decade earlier, a concert that Sheeran credits with changing the trajectory of his life.
“It’s amazing to come back to perform at a place that means so much to me personally,” said Sheeran. “I was only about 11 or 12 years old when I saw Damien [Rice] play at Whelan’s, and that night literally changed my life. The time he spent talking with me after the show made all the difference. It inspired me in a way that I only hope to do for someone else.”
As is customary with Storytellers, Sheeran will tell the audience – in the case of Whelan’s, only 400 lucky fans – about the inspiration behind hit singles like “Don’t,” “Thinking Out Loud” and other X cuts. Following the live performance, VH1.com will stream an exclusive 30-minute after show featuring the singer.
More artists who will appear on this season of VH1 Storytellers Live will be announced soon.
