One year after shocking Guns N’ Roses fans by guesting with the band in London, Duff McKagan again performed with the band during shows in Seattle and Vancouver this weekend. The onstage reunion was a little less surprising this time because McKagan’s band Loaded opened up both of the shows. On December 16th McKagan joined the group for an encore of “You Could Be Mine” (seen here), and the next night in Vancouver he came out for “Civil War” and a repeat of “You Could Be Mine.”
The reunion comes just four months before Guns N’ Roses are going to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Is this a precursor to a reunion of the complete original lineup at the ceremony? What’s the deal with Velvet Revolver? Can Duff really toggle back and forth between Team Axl and Team Slash? Per usual, there are many more Guns N’ Roses questions than answers.
Original rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin has performed with Axl a number of times these past few years, but original drummer Steven Adler recently told us that his efforts to get a guest appearance on this tour have been in vain. And Slash hasn’t played with Axl since the final gig of the Use Your Illusion tour in 1993. At this point, it’s very difficult to imagine him ever appearing at a Guns N’ Roses gig. Stranger things have happened in rock & roll, though not many.
