Drug Charges Against Scott Weiland’s Bassist Tommy Black Dropped

Tommy Black, the bassist for Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts who was arrested after the singer was found dead aboard his tour bus on December 3rd, will not face drug charges stemming from the incident. Black was arrested for possession of a controlled substance – cocaine – following the incident, but Bloomington, Minnesota police announced this week that they would not pursue charges against the bassist.

An autopsy report revealed that Weiland died of an accidental overdose of cocaine, ethanol and methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA), as well as suffered from atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, a history of asthma and multi-substance dependence. A small quantity of cocaine was found in Weiland’s tour bus room.

In the police’s initial investigation from the night of Weiland’s death, they noted that a small bag of cocaine was also found in a bunk belonging to Black. However, given the number of people who resided on the bus, it proved difficult for police to conclude that the controlled substance actually belonged to Black.

“[The narcotics] were found in a bunk and obviously with several people residing on a bus a number of people could have potentially possessed those narcotics, so at the end of the day we decided not to pursue charges against him,” Bloomington police chief Mike Hartley told People after “weighing what it would take to probe the narcotics charges against” Black.

Black’s Facebook page shared a pair of links stating he would not face drug charges. The bassist was released from jail a day after his arrest.
