With his new album Nothing Was the Same out tomorrow, Drake is looking more towards Kanye and less towards Kendrick Lamar. Last night, the Canadian rapper said he has all but forgotten about Kendrick’s diss against him on “Control.” “That verse, he’s giving people moments. That verse was a moment to talk about,” Drake told journalist Elliott Wilson at New York University’s Skirball Center. Drake appeared as a part of the latest installation of the CRWN live interview series presented by Myspace.

Where Does Drake’s ‘Take Care’ Rank on Rolling Stone’s 50 Best Albums of 2012?

In August, Drake spoke to Billboard about Kendrick’s dig and while he’s hasn’t committed any official response to wax, his verse on Nothing Was the Same‘s “The Language” is said to be a subliminal jab. Overall, he didn’t see “Control” as a big deal. “Are you listening to it now? At this point?” he asked rhetorically.

For Drake, how Kendrick performs next will indicate whether he’s a formidable adversary or just blowing hot air. “I can’t wait to see what he does because now it’s time to show and prove,” he mused. “Consistency. It’s been like one album. Consistency is make more than one album. I look forward to seeing what he does. He’s super fucking talented.”

The conversation then turned to Kanye West and how his output inspires him. “When it comes to competition, I’m more worried about consistency, about bodies of work. I’m talking about hit records . . . that’s Kanye West,” he said. “He’s always going to be the guy who’s trying to outthink and out-do. That’s my guy that I aspire to surpass.”

Starting this Wednesday, Myspace will roll out Drake’s NYU conversation in three episode installments.
