Doors iPad App Updated with ‘Ray Remembered’ Clip – Premiere

Robby Krieger, John Densmore give first joint interview in years

Several days before what would have been Jim Morrison’s 70th birthday on December 8th, the Doors have released the first official update to their iPad app, which the band launched earlier this year. The updated version of the app – simply titled “The Doors” and featuring mementos including unpublished photos and album art, along with music and rarely seen concert and interview footage –features drummer John Densmore and guitarist Robby Krieger’s first interview together in more than a decade, held to commemorate keyboardist Ray Manzarek, who died earlier this year.

Where Do the Doors Rank on Our 100 Greatest Artists List?

In the clip, part of a series called “Ray Remembered,” Densmore and Krieger reminisce about how the Doors got together. “Play the slide! They’ll love it,” Densmore recalls telling Krieger, whom he says was one of the first musicians to play slide on an electric guitar (which the Doors’ guitarist denies, citing Muddy Waters and others). But the Doors’ drummer was right about one thing: “I played the slide for Morrison, and he really freaked out on that,”  Krieger says. It’s a touching moment for the two surviving band members, who will also make an appearance together tonight at an L.A. screening of Mr. Mojo Risin’: The Story of L.A. Woman at the Bing Theatre.

“Ray Remembered” also includes a new slideshow of rare and unseen images and an essay on Manzarek by Adam Holzman, son of Elektra Records’ Jac Holzman, the mastermind behind the Doors app. The app is currently available exclusively on the iTunes App Store
