DMX was arrested at New York City’s John F. Kennedy Airport on Thursday for attempted robbery, criminal impersonation and criminal mischief.
The rapper (a.k.a. Earl Simmons) and an associate are accused of trying to steal a car at the airport’s parking lot. Port Authority police broke up a dispute between DMX and the man believed to be the owner of the car on Thursday night. No one was injured in the fracas and no weapons were recovered. According to reports, Simmons might have identified himself as a federal agent during the incident.
The incident is hardly the first time the troubled rapper/actor has run afoul of the law. Automobiles have been an ongoing source of legal complication for DMX, who was arrested for a coterie of traffic violations in 2000 and 2002. Failure to appear for court hearings for the former resulted in a short prison stint. An arrest at his New Jersey home in 1999 resulted in charges for drug paraphernalia and animal cruelty.
