Diamond Rings Laments His ‘Runaway Love’ (Acoustic)
John O’Regan (a/k/a Diamond Rings) usually drapes his flashy electropop with layers of oozing synths and fuzzy guitars, but the Canadian artist takes a different direction on this “One Mic, One Take” acoustic version of the Free Dimensional single “Runaway Love.” The original sported synth claps and punky guitar downbeats and featured Diamond Rings keeping it (relatively) grimy around an array of muscle cars, but this rendition does a 180. Diamond Rings finds inspiration from the Rat Pack, stripping down the song to flaunt his graceful voice. He even got to sing on the same microphone that Frank Sinatra himself used at Capitol Records.
Artist to Watch: Diamond Rings, a One-Man Dance-Pop Spectacle
“I’m a huge fan of classic crooners, so you can imagine how psyched I was,” Diamond Rings tells Rolling Stone. “‘Runaway Love’ might not be as casually cool as anything put to track by Ol’ Blue Eyes, but I still did my best to dress the part. Squint real hard and I look like I’m in the Rat Pack!”
