Desiigner paints a vivid, gritty portrait of violence and desperation on his new single, “Tiimmy Turner.”
“Tiimmy Turner” borrows its title from the main character in Nickelodeon’s The Fairly Odd Parents, a cartoon about a kid (Timmy, with one “i”) with two fairy godparents who grant his every wish. Desiigner, however, flips that concept into a hook about kids trapped in brutal environments and forced to wish for things far more sinister: “Tiimmy Tiimmy Tiimmy Turner / He be wishin’ for a burner / To kill everybody walkin’ / You know that he’s holdin’ the furnace.”
The song expands on Desiigner’s XXL Freshman Freestyle and features production from close Kanye West collaborator Mike Dean, who lets a sticky g-funk synth ride over brutal trap percussion. For the final chorus, however, Dean flips the beat and lets Desiigner ride out “Tiimmy Turner” 808s and Heartbreak–style, amidst finger snaps, a blown-out synth and resonating piano.
“Tiimmy Turner” marks Desiigner’s first single since the release of his debut mixtape, New English, in June.
