Delta Spirit Perform ‘Trashcan,’ describe new album

There’s no rule that says stripped-down, intimate showcases have to be any less kinetic than main stage performances at festivals. So even though Delta Spirit frontman Matthew Vasquez picked up his acoustic for this version of “Trashcan,” which the band performed for Rolling Stone at Lollapalooza, the track itself is as rollicking as any other version. Perhaps even more-so, as Vasquez used the confined environs as an opportunity to connect one-on-one with fans, encouraging them to be in the moment, even as he sang, “My love is coming and I can barely hardly wait around.”

After releasing their second album, History From Below, in the summer of 2010, Delta Spirit went through a slight lineup change and then took a quick pause while Vasquez joined his alpha-male cronies from Dawes and Deer Tick to form the supergroup Middle Brother. But now, according to this backstage interview with Rolling Stone, Delta Spirit is back in the throes of recording their next album, and they are happy to report that things could not be better. Having whittled away the fat from 30 songs to come up with their best 10, Vasquez says, “It’s really the greatest hits that we can provide for you, of our two years.”
