Death From Above 1979 have announced the track list and offered up the first song from their new album, The Physical World, along with scheduling a string of European and North American tour dates to accompany their first LP since splitting up in 2006.
Take a listen to the album’s first single, “Trainwreck 1979,” a relentless piece of all-cylinders punk that shows time has done little to deter Sebastien Grainger and Jesse F. Keeler (the latter also one-half of the electro duo MSTRKRFT) from turning everything all the way up.
You can also pre-order The Physical World in its digital or physical form, the latter available in various bundles packed with extras. The record was produced by D. Sardy (Red Hot Chili Peppers, LCD Soundsystem, Oasis) and will be released by Last Gang Records and Warner Bros. Out September 9th, The Physical World marks the Toronto duo’s second full-length effort, coming a decade after the release of their blistering debut, You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine.
Death From Above 1979 will play a homecoming gig at Toronto’s Riot Fest in September before touring this fall, with a European trek set for October and North American dates scheduled for November (check out the band’s full itinerary over on their website). Fans in North America will also get one download of The Physical World for every pair of tickets they purchase, except for dates at Riot Fest, the Voodoo Music and Arts Experience in New Orleans, Fun Fun Fun festival in Austin and a November 21st show at Salt Lake City’s In the Venue.
In a recent interview with NME, Grainger spoke about the long break in between albums and the inevitable expectations facing The Physical World: “No matter what Jesse and I do, on whatever scale of success it’s sat on, there’s always some kind of reference to Death From Above. It’s only frustrating because it’s so lazy. So we’re putting out a Death From Above record and if the press is like, ‘It’s not what we expected,’ or however they react to it, it’s like, ‘Well, you’ve been fucking asking for it.'”
