Dead Weather Held Captive in Eerie ‘Impossible Winner’ Video

The Dead Weather have released a stark, darkly funny and strange video for “Impossible Winner,” off their latest album, Dodge and Burn. The clip premiered via Tidal, where it can be watched ahead of a wide release Friday.

The video finds band members Alison Mosshart, Jack White, Dean Fertita and Jack Lawrence playing paranormal side-show attractions cooped up in cages on a boxcar. Mosshart, for example, is half-buried in dirt, while White, sprouting several extra limbs, furiously scribbles and types out notes, which he tries to pass to his fellow passengers. 

The car, however, is lorded over by two black-robed goons and a man whose entire face is a howling mouth. When the passengers get too rowdy, the trio starts rattling cages, squelching any chance for a possible rebellion or break-out.

The Dead Weather released Dodge and Burn last September. Though the record marked the group’s first since 2010’s Sea of Cowards, they did not announce any plans for a tour. Instead, the Dead Weather released a variety of videos including a series of tutorials in which each member detailed their role in the band.
