David Lynch to Issue Remix EP Featuring Moby, Bastille

Since Crazy Clown Time is pretty much all the time for David Lynch, the movie director and musician has planned a remix EP for Record Store Day that will contain four new versions of songs from his 2013 LP The Big Dream. The 12-inch, which will be available on clear red vinyl, will feature remixing by Moby, Bastille, Hot Since 82 and Peter Björn and John’s Björn Yttling, according to NME.

Moby’s double take, which he has dubbed a “reversion,” on “The Big Dream” features new contributions by the DJ’s sometime collaborator vocalist Mindy Jones. Her hushed, whispery vocals transform the track from a quirky, outré noise-blues experiment into a chilly, more refined ethereal post-pop song. To Moby’s credit, it sounds like something that would appear on the soundtrack to a Lynch movie.

Lynch, who put out a different remix of “The Big Dream” by Venetian Snares last year, recently explained his musical tastes to Rolling Stone, when the David Lynch Foundation honored producer Rick Rubin with a “Lifetime of Harmony Award.” “I love the blues. And I love rhythm and blues, and Elvis Presley taking off from those two things,” he said. “And I like rockabilly, and I like the Beatles—my favorite Beatles song is ‘Across the Universe.’ I like Jimi Hendrix and I like Bob Dylan. ZZ Top is one of my all-time favorite bands. When I first heard them, I said, ‘These people have got the power. And the roots are there.’ But they just kick butt.” And what is his favorite ZZ Top song? “Sharp-Dressed Man.”
