Surrealist filmmaker-musician David Lynch, punk-metal icons Melvins and noise-rock veteran David Yow will contribute new music to a box set led by Australian musician Adam Harding’s collaborative project, Dumb Numbers. The Split Series release features new music from the acts on one side of three split 10-inch records, with Dumb Numbers material on the other. The set is out September 25th via Joyful Noise

The Dumb Numbers project – which released its self-titled debut in 2013 – finds Harding teaming with members of Best Coast (Bobb Bruno), Dinosaur Jr. (Lou Barlow and Murph), Melvins (Dale Crover), Warpaint (Jenny Lee Lindberg), the Jesus Lizard (David Yow) and more.

The one-time Split Series pressing includes 975 hand-numbered copies, enclosed in a custom wooden box with screen-printed art from Mackie Osborne. The first 275 copies will be availably exclusively to Joyful Noise VIP members on clear vinyl with “haze of gold, silver and oxblood colors.” A portion of the album’s proceeds will benefit the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace. A trailer for the release, which teases new music, is available below.

Dumb Numbers will play a run of dates – with the Lemonheads, Yow and others – in September and early October. The Split Series track list doesn’t specify writing credits, but Lynch is assumedly responsible for “I Dreamed I Saw Jack Nance Last Night,” which references the late actor who played Pete Martell in cult-classic TV series Twin Peaks and protagonist Henry from Lynch’s debut film, 1977’s Eraserhead.

Lynch released his debut solo LP, Crazy Clown Time, in 2011, followed two years later by The Big Dream. It’s unclear when the acclaimed filmmaker, who’s set to start production on the Twin Peaks revival in September, will release another album.
