David Crosby ‘Intensely Proud’ of New Album With His Son – Premiere

David Crosby talks candidly about his relationship with his son, James Raymond, and how their unique musical bond fostered Croz, his new album – which was just released January 28th – in this video exclusive. The clip also finds Raymond and guitarist Marcus Eaton sharing their perspective on the project, interspersing performance footage from the two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s first new studio effort in more than two decades.

“We had no money, but my son James had a studio at his place,” Crosby tells Rolling Stone. “I slept on the couch and we’d get up and work . . . For more than two years we did this off and on, until we had made this record.”

“I am intensely proud of the songs and the production that James and [co-producer] Dan Garcia did,” adds Crosby. “And it is family affair, since my younger son, Django, took the cover picture. I do think it is some of the best work of my life, and I couldn’t be happier.”  

Crosby’s biological son, James Raymond, was born in 1962 and was put up for adoption. Three decades later they were reunited, and Raymond has played with Crosby since 1997. Croz features guest appearances from guitarist Mark Knopfler on the song “What’s Broken” and trumpeter Wynton Marsalis on “Holding On to Nothing.” It was released on Blue Castle Records, the label Crosby founded with his longtime musical collaborator Graham Nash in 2012.

Crosby is in the midst of a multi-night engagement at New York’s City Winery, which runs through the weekend. He also has residencies at the Barns at Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia, Chicago’s City Winery, San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall and L.A.’s Troubadour through February 28th.
