David Bowie Teases Eerie ‘Blackstar’ Short Film
David Bowie has unveiled a 30-second trailer for his upcoming short film, “★” (previously referred to as ‘Blackstar’), also the name of the first single from his new LP out January 8th. In the creepy teaser, viewers sees a young woman walking the ruins of an old city, a bejeweled skull, men convulsing/dancing to the beat of a drummer, people crucified on scarecrow posts and, finally, Bowie himself, holding a black star-adorned book and staring into the sky. The “★” video will arrive in full on November 19th, a day before the single is set for release.
The video – like Last Panthers, the Sky Atlantic drama series that inspired Bowie to pen the track – was directed by Johan Renck. In addition to its Internet release, the “★” video will also premiere November 19th at Brooklyn’s Nitehawk Cinema, with that theater hosting free first-come, first-serve screenings of the short film. Bowie has also launched an interactive, album-specific site – ImABlackstar.com – that appears to count down toward the video’s premiere.
