Dave Grohl to Appear in ‘Muppets Movie’

Dave Grohl is reportedly making a cameo in The Muppets Movie, the Jason Segel-penned flick about the beloved puppetry troupe’s adventures.
According to the British magazine Kerrang!, the Foo Fighters drummer will pick up the sticks for the Muppets’ house band the Electric Mayhem when the unhinged Animal is forced to undergo anger management counseling. The role will be Grohl’s first movie part since 2006, when he played Satan in Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny, though he’s also proved his comedic bona fides in videos for the Foo Fighters’ “Everlong” and “Learn To Fly.”

Segel will star as Walter, a fan of the Muppets who helps reunite the troupe in order to stage a telethon to raise $10 million and save the Muppet Theater from destruction by an oilman.
In other Muppets Movie music news, Flight of the Conchords star Bret McKenzie is serving as music supervisor and writing original songs for the film. (The movie is directed by James Bobin, who co-created Conchords with McKenzie and Jemaine Clement.) McKenzie told The Dominion Post, “It was really unexpected. We were in the studio recording Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy. It was a very surreal experience.”
