Danny Brown Premieres new track ‘Monopoly’

Weirdo Detroit MC Danny Brown is still getting mileage out of his summer free release, XXX (as in his age, 30 – not porn), which exposed his hedonist streak and Pharoahe Monch-gone-bonkers voice to the indie rap masses. Just a couple of weeks after releasing the ASAP Rocky-directed video for XXX standout “Blunt After Blunt,” he’s premiering the visuals for its absurdist boast track, “Monopoly,” here on Rolling Stone.

“It’s really just a trippy, LSD-type of video. The director’s concept was to get performance shots with old, vintage cameras,” says Brown, who drives a dusty Ford pickup and briefly sports a blonde toupee over his well-known angular hairdo in the clip, directed by Ben Fries. Brown plays his own version of Monopoly, natch.  It’s an atypical rap video, but Brown is the first to admit that his fanbase isn’t typical.

Random Notes

“Guys in my neighborhood don’t listen to my music,” says Brown. “They don’t have computers. They’re not on the Internet like that, you know? To them it’s just Rick Ross and whatever goes on the radio.” Not that he’s complaining or anything. “I love it!” he adds. “I feel like a ninja or something, because I can still be on my porch drinking 40s. I’m still Daniel.”
