Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. Play ‘Skeletons,’ Talk Boyz II Men

Watch an exclusive performance and interview from Lollapalooza

While it’s hard to make a comparison to the fast-paced heroics of their namesake in this particular clip, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. nonetheless take their track “Skeletons” around for a victory lap in this backstage performance for Rolling Stone at Lollapalooza. Another seeming contradiction: they strip down for the rendition, fleshing the song out with an acoustic guitar and traditional percussion as opposed to their typical dance-ready dirges that are driven by programmed beats and adorned with synth atmospherics. The song appears in its electric form on the band’s current release, It’s a Corporate World.

Hailing from Detroit, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.’s true partnership – and friendship – is instantly apparent, from the way the pair make a promise to each other at the start of the performance to the way they look to each other for affirmation during Rolling Stone‘s interview with them from backstage at Lollapalooza. Of course, it helps that they have matching V-necks, which they almost sport as team outfits. And like any true team, they riff well off each other, imagining what it’d be like to tour with Coldplay while suggesting that their next tour should be opening for early-90s pop sensation Boyz II Men. “They’re on the casino circuit now,” says Joshua Epstein, appearing to address his bandmate Daniel Zott more than us, during the interview. “Maybe they’d want to do some club dates.”
