Crosby Busted for Pot, Gun

Veteran singer arrested at New York City hotel

David Crosby was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and illegal possession of a hunting knife, ammunition and marijuana.

Crosby, 62, checked out of the Double Tree Hotel in New York City following a performance with his band CPR in Wayne, New Jersey, on Friday night. He left a suitcase behind, which a hotel worker inspected for identification. Upon finding a .45 caliber handgun, three magazines containing twenty-six rounds, a hunting knife and an ounce of marijuana, the worker alerted authorities.

The two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer (with the Byrds and Crosby, Stills and Nash) called the hotel to say he was returning for the suitcase. Upon his arrival, he was apprehended by police and hit with the charges, the most serious of which, weapons possession, is a felony with a possible seven-year jail term if he is convicted. Crosby posted $3,500 bail and was released; he is scheduled to return to court on May 19th.

The arrest isn’t Crosby’s first legal tangle involving drugs and weapons. He endured a string of arrests in the early Eighties until a 1985 drug possession conviction landed him a year in a Texas jail, where he detoxed.
