Courtney Love Wants a Rose Named in Her Honor

‘To say I’m not crazy about roses is crazy,’ Love explains

Anxious to join an exclusive club that includes Barbra Streisand, Marilyn Monroe and, uh, tennis player Victoria Azarenka, Courtney Love has launched a campaign to have a rose named in her honor.

In the latest installment of her #CourtneyOn YouTube series, Love let it be known that she’s feeling thorny, specifically looking for “a hybrid rose that’s glittering and silver” to bear her namesake. And though that seems like a tall order, Love added “You can hybrid anything” now (turns out, she’s correct: here are some breeding instructions written in Comic Sans.)

Of course, it might not be that simple. According to people who know about things like this, “Naming a rose is a complex operation that can take 2-7 years,” one that includes creating a hybrid with a breeder, testing it, and finally registering it with the American Rose Society, the nation’s “oldest single-plant horticultural society.”

But Love is also prepared to put her money where her mouth is, telling fans “I have it in my will [that] 1/100th of my Estate goes towards the development of a silver glitter rose … just in case I get hit by a tractor in a corn field.”

And, in this particular instance, Love – who recently drew the ire of Springsteen fans for an anti-saxophone rant (one she’d subsequently apologize for) – is willing to side with her detractors: Yes, as a matter of fact, she is crazy.

“To say I’m not crazy about roses is crazy,” she explained. “Because I love roses.”
