The rumors were apparently true: Courtney Love is once again reuniting the Celebrity Skin lineup of Hole. Shortly before New Year’s, Love posted a photo of her embracing guitarist Eric Erlandson on Facebook and tagged bassist Mellissa Auf Der Maur. The photo’s caption read, “2014 is going to be a very interesting year.” Now that lineup, which also features drummer Patty Schemel, is planning on releasing a new single titled “Wedding Day” in May to coincide with a U.K. tour, according to The Quietus.
“I started playing with Patty and Melissa and Eric, just to see how that was,” Love said. “We already played like three or four times in the last week.”
The lineup played together from 1994 and 1998, between the arrival of Auf Der Maur, who replaced the group’s late bassist Kristin Pfaff, and the departure of Schemel, who left the band, according to a Drum! magazine interview, over differences with producer Michael Beinhorn during the creation of Celebrity Skin.
The group appeared together for the first time since Schemel’s departure in 2011 at the premiere of the documentary Hit So Hard, which told the drummer’s life story. Both Auf Der Maur denied reunion rumors at the time but said they were open to one, and it finally happened over a year later. The lineup played its first songs together in 15 years – “Miss World,” off Live Through This and a cover of the Wipers’ “Over the Edge” – in April 2012 at an after party for the documentary.

Since then, Love has been making headlines but not for her music. In recent months, she has stood trial for Twitter libel – where she broke down in court at one juncture – but was later cleared of the charges. She was also sued by a psychiatrist for $50,000 over a breach of contract. And despite her trial, she’s stayed active on social media, offering head-scratching theories about the location of the missing Malaysian plane, as well as comedian Daniel Tosh’s genitalia. She’s also said that she would “very likely” give the go-ahead for a musical based on the life of her late husband, Kurt Cobain, should it be done in a respectful way.
