The Smashing Pumpkins said goodbye to fans at their final show at the Metro in Chicago and, little by little, the band has been tying up loose ends on their official Web site, www.smashingpumpkins.com.
For fans who have been following the story line behind their last two releases, Machina/The Machines of God and the Internet release Machina/Friends and Enemies of Modern Music, Corgan posted the final chapter, Chapter Seven “A Happy Ending??” about the demise of the fictional band the Machines of God chronicled in the two albums. In an art-imitating-life narrative Corgan writes, “The kids came and stole the show, naturally of course, when upon that hollowed stage the band strode as if any year, any time but now, but the final collapsing point did go noticed . . .”
For fans who have not yet heard Machina/Friends and Enemies of Modern Music, the band has finally posted the album on their Web site. All twenty-five tracks are available in either MP3 or Real Media formats. Previously the tracks had only been available on fan sites. Along with the final chapter, Corgan also posted his flow chart detailing the themes and accompanying songs on both Machina albums.
