Azealia Banks‘ latest single has gotten a video as inventive as her album Broke With Expensive Taste. Partnering with Google, the Harlem MC has unveiled an interactive video for new single “Wallace” that makes viewers part of the visual.
The black and white clip is only viewable on Google Chrome and requires accessibility to a webcam to gain the full experience. The screen then commands the viewer to move their face so they can control Banks’ movements and later become the background of the video.
Produced by Collins and directed by Nick Ace and Rob Soucy in collaboration with Banks, the video is made possible by the Google Cloud Platform, specifically the Google App Engine and Google Cloud Storage. “I’m such a huge fan of technology and creative new ways of interacting and engaging with fans, so this collaboration was perfect for me,” Banks said in a statement. “Music videos are as much of an art form as the music itself. The more I can push myself in my creative endeavors, the better.”
Following a difficult relationship with Interscope, the rapper broke free of her label ties and released her long-anticipated debut Broke With Expensive Taste in November. “I didn’t really believe it was going to come out the day it was going to come out the day that my managers told me,” Banks told Rolling Stone about the surprise release. “I’d get a date from the label, then it wouldn’t come out. You just feel stupid after a while.”
The “212” performer will appear at Coachella and has a short North American tour plotted for the spring. Check out the dates below.
