Coldplay Dedicate ‘Fix You’ to Mick Jagger at NYC Show

Coldplay dedicated “Fix You” to Mick Jagger during their Beacon Theatre show in New York City on Monday night, The Associated Press reports. “It’s for Mick Jagger,” frontman Chris Martin said ahead of the band’s cathartic anthem, and just a few days after a memorial was held for Jagger’s longtime girlfriend, fashion designer L’Wren Scott.

The service was held last Friday at New York City’s St. Bartholomew’s Church and attended by family and friends of Jagger and Scott’s including Sarah Jessica Parker, Martin Scorsese, Julianne Moore and Meg Ryan. Scott was honored with tributes from Parker, Ellen Barkin, her brother Randy Bambrough and fashion editor André Leon Talley. Jagger reportedly shared some words as well and sang Bob Dylan‘s “Just Like a Woman.”
Shortly after she was found dead in her Manhattan apartment from an apparent suicide, Jagger released a statement about Scott, writing, “I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way. We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves. She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me.”
As for Coldplay, the band is gearing up for the May 19th release of their new album, Ghost Stories. Over the weekend, the band hit Saturday Night Live where they performed lead single “Magic” — which Martin has said examines his “conscious uncoupling” with wife Gwyneth Paltrow — and “A Sky Full of Stars,” co-written with EDM star Avicii.
Coldplay also reportedly closed their show at the Beacon with a new cut “True Love,” with Martin asking the crowd not to film it and upload it to YouTube: “[This] is the best song off our new album that no one has ever heard yet,” he said. “Sometimes you have to keep these things to yourself.”
Ghost Stories follows up Coldplay’s 2011 LP, Mylo Xyloto. On May 18th, ahead of the album’s release, NBC will air an hour-long special, Coldplay: Ghost Stories, which will feature live footage of the band playing through their new album in its entirety filmed during an intimate show on a soundstage in Los Angeles back in March.
