Hear Cher’s Moving Cover of ABBA Ballad ‘One of Us’
Cher has offered up another preview of her ABBA tribute album Dancing Queen with an emotional take on the Swedish pop group’s 1981 single “One of Us.” Dancing Queen will be out next Friday.
On “One of Us,” Cher strips away much of the tropical production on the original to make the heaviness and dark lyrical content the proper forefront. The song appeared on ABBA’s final album, The Visitor, and was heavily influenced by the divorces of the two couples in the quartet.
Dancing Queen is Cher’s 26th studio album and features production from Mark Taylor, who worked with her on the hit “Believe.” The LP was inspired by her appearance in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, the sequel to musical-film Mamma Mia! She is currently touring Australia and New Zealand and will embark on a North American trek beginning in January. This December, Cher will join Reba McEntire and Hamilton as the latest honorees at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.
