See Charli XCX, Troye Sivan’s Laser-Filled ‘1999’ Performance on ‘Fallon’
Charli XCX and Troye Sivan transformed The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon‘s stage into a bumping club for their performance of “1999” on Monday.
Drowned in green lasers, the pair grooved along to their Nineties-obsessed lyrics. Dressed in club-ready garb – Charli XCX wore a matching slick dark blue jacket and miniskirt and Sivan was in stylish red pants – they bounced around the fog-covered stage.
While Charli XCX was only seven the year of the song’s title, she told Rolling Stone that the titling it “1999” was not about yearning for the past and more that the title had intrigued her for some time. “I thought ‘1999’ was such a cool title for a song, and always wanted to work it into something because I thought it would provide a lot of inspiration,” she said. “It was less about being nostalgic. I thought it was a really poptastic title for a song.”
