As the East Coast prepares for the arrival of Hurricane Irene this weekend, many celebrities and rock stars have joined ordinary folks on Twitter in chattering – or straight-up freaking out – about the coming storm. Here’s a handful of some of the best tweets we’ve seen this afternoon.

If Irene fucks up NYC FEMA will take care of everybody right away and make sure everything is ok. Not New Orleans.

@ACNewman Carl Newman of the New Pornographers
Caught myself whistling ‘Touch Of Grey’ by the Dead as I boarded up windows, and I had to stop briefly to marvel at my own will to survive.

@jonwurster Jon Wurster of Superchunk and the Mountain Goats
It’s pre-hurricane clothing optional Friday here at Casa de Wurster. Casa de Wurster is a Mexican/German restaurant I frequent often.
