Cee Lo Green Charged With Giving a Woman Ecstasy

The Los Angeles district attorney’s office announced today that it will prosecute CeeLo Green for allegedly giving a woman ecstasy, according to CNN. It also announced that, after investigating the incident, there was insufficient evidence to warrant a rape charge. Green was charged this afternoon with furnishing a controlled substance, a felony offense.
The charges stem from an incident that allegedly occurred at a Downtown Los Angeles restaurant sometime between July 13 and July 14, 2012. According to the prosecutor’s statement, that’s when the singer “allegedly slipped ecstasy to a 33-year-old female,” who remains unnamed. The pair retired to the woman’s hotel room where she claims she woke up next to The Voicejudge, who was naked. It was reported last year that the woman had recorded a conversation with Green in which she tried to get the singer to admit he had drugged her. Green allegedly apologized on the tape and mentioned MDMA.

Last November, Green – whose real name is Thomas DeCarlo Callaway – decried the woman’s allegations of sexual assault. His rep was reported as saying the accusations were “despicable, untrue, and deeply hurtful to Cee Lo.” Today, his lawyer, Blair Berk, commented, “We are pleased that the Los Angeles County District Attorney has completed its investigation and concluded that the evidence did not support the false and unfounded claims made over a year ago. Mr. Green encouraged a full and complete investigation of those claims and he was confident once conducted he would be cleared of having any wrongful intent and it would be established that any relations were consensual.” His lawyer added that the singer will “responsibly address” the drug charge in court.
If convicted of the felony, Green faces up to four years in a state prison. Prior to his arraignment, prosecutors requested his bail be set at $30,000.
