Cassadee Pope Gets Last Word on ‘Proved You Wrong’ – Song Premiere

Cassadee Pope can finally send the musical letter to her naysayers that she wrote three years ago. Pope wrote “Proved You Wrong” with Emily Shackelton and Phil Barton back in the singer’s days fronting the struggling pop-rock band Hey Monday, but she’s kept the tune in her back pocket until now. Although the song sounds at first like a breakup anthem, it actually stemmed from the challenges Pope faced in the music industry before winning Season Three of The Voice.
“It’s about going through obstacles in my career – labels not believing in me, leaving labels and losing people’s attention,” Pope tells Rolling Stone. “But I took more of a relationship spin on it to make it more relatable. There are a lot of relationships where one person doesn’’t really understand what the other is doing, as far as their career, and they’re not being very supportive.”
The song comes from Frame by Frame, Pope’s solo debut, which is due out on October 8th. Pre-order it here.
