Broken Bells Return With ‘After the Disco’

The Shins‘ James Mercer and producer Danger Mouse have reconvened as Broken Bells. A representative for the band confirms that the title of the record is After the Disco and it’s a full-length album, due out January 2014. The duo teased a new song with a short clip released on their website today.
The video snippet, which finds Mercer and Danger Mouse scaling a peculiar structure floating over the desert, showcases part of a track that certainly fits the album’s title: A relaxed drum beat and warbling synth line that give way to a spacey dance groove, with Mercer singing (in his best Barry Gibb voice) “You’re holding on for life.”

After the Disco marks the second full-length from Broken Bells, who released their debut album, Broken Bells back in 2010, followed by the Meyrin Fields EP in 2011.
Since then, both Mercer and Danger Mouse have remained busy with other projects. The Shins released their fourth LP, Port of Morrow in 2012 and toured around it for over a year, while Danger Mouse has produced records from artists like Norah Jones (Little Broken Hearts) and the Black Keys (El Camino).
