Bob Seger is hard at work on his first studio collection since 2006’s Face The Music. “I’m setting myself a deadline of September 24th to have it out,” Seger tells Rolling Stone. “Wish me luck.”

The Detroit-based rocker released a greatest hits compilation, Ultimate Hits: Rock and Roll Never Forgets, last year. He just finished a highly successful tour built around the classics that earned him a spot in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame: “Night Moves,” “Hollywood Nights,” “Like A Rock,” “Against The Wind” and “Travelin’ Man/Beautiful Loser,” just to name a few.

But Seger is turning his attention now entirely to new material and he found some inspiration this weekend with his trip to the Grammys. “I came here to get stoked up, see a bunch of great talent and I’m gonna fire up the writing pad tomorrow night,” he says.

For Seger – who brought his wife, daughter and son to the event – a trip to the Grammys is a chance to see old friends, including Bruce Springsteen, who joined Seger on stage at Madison Square Garden last year. But it was the night’s reigning queen that motivated Seger and his family to head out west out to L.A. “I told my manager Monday, ‘I gotta see Adele sing.’ The whole family loves her,'” he says. “It’s really the main reason I started my way here.”
