Bob Geldof, Lupe Fiasco to Honor Aung San Suu Kyi in Dublin

Bob Geldof, Lupe Fiasco and other artists will honor Burmese leader Aung San Suu Kyi at the Electric Burma concert at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in Dublin on June 18th. Proceeds of the event, which has already sold out, will go to Amnesty International and the Daw Aung San Suu Kyi Trust for Health and Education. Other artists contributing to the show include Damien Rice, Vanessa Redgrave and Angelique Kidjo.
Aung San Suu Kyi will be in Dublin to accept Amnesty International’s highest honor, which will be presented by Bono. Suu Kyi’s visit is part of her first international tour in 24 years following her extensive house arrest in Burma. The nonviolent freedom fighter was elected to the Burmese Parliament in 1990, but the nation’s military refused to hand over power and detained her until November of 2010. She was elected to Parliament earlier this year and took office in May.
