Blur Slowly Writing New Material

According to Blur guitarist Graham Coxon, the band have been slowly writing and recording new material, but have no plans to release any of it soon.

In an interview with the NME yesterday, Coxon explained that the group reunite periodically to record songs but added, “I suppose it might turn into an LP in six years or something.” He also shot down previous reports that the band is working on a series of 7-inch singles.

Though Blur have been largely defunct since they finished touring for their album Think Tank in 2004, they have occasionally reunited, most notably for a series of festival appearances in England in 2009. They also released a non-album single “Fool’s Day” last April.

Though Blur’s casual work pace may be frustrating for fans who have been waiting since 2003 for a new album, it makes sense given the members other pursuits. Band leader Damon Albarn spent most of 2010 touring and recording with the Gorillaz, Coxon has two solo albums in the works and bassist Alex James is preparing to host a music and food festival on his farm later this year.
