Black Keys Drummer Patrick Carney Dislocates Shoulder in Swimming Accident

The Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney suffered a dislocated shoulder Saturday on the island of Saint-Barthélemy after a giant wave slammed him into the ocean floor, TMZ reports. Carney was reportedly rushed to the ER and administered anesthesia so doctors could reset his shoulder. The Turn Blue drummer has since been released from the hospital but TMZ writes that Carney is still in significant pain from the incident.
Carney’s own Instagram – which he had been using to superimpose Google Glass eyewear on the faces of celebrities – seems to corroborate the shoulder injury. “Tune into my new lifetime movie. ‘Dislocated shoulder’ airing right now,” Carney joked on Instagram. The drummer posted another photo of his arm resting on a hospital bed with the bone slightly protruding in the shoulder.
The Black Keys are next scheduled to perform February 6th at the 2015 MusiCares Person of the Year tribute to Bob Dylan; it’s unclear whether Carney’s injury will prevent the Black Keys from playing the event. Neil Young, Beck, Eddie Vedder, Jack White, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, Crosby, Stills & Nash and many more are lined up to honor Dylan at the MusiCares event, which traditionally takes place in Los Angeles in the days leading up to the Grammy Awards.
Ten days later, Carney and singer/guitarist Dan Auerbach will embark on the Black Keys’ month-long European tour.
