Billy Joel Rocks ‘You Shook Me All Night Long’ With Brian Johnson

Billy Joel really shook up his monthly residency at Madison Square Garden last night when he surprised the crowd by bringing out AC/DC singer Brian Johnson for a guest appearance.

According to the Associated Press, Johnson took the stage about halfway through Joel’s show on Friday night, after an introduction where Joel referred to AC/DC as “maybe the best band I ever saw in my life.” As the classic opening riff of “You Shook Me All Night Long” rang out, the crowd roared in approval.

By bringing on the rocker for the surprising cover choice, Joel seemed to be putting into practice his philosophy regarding diverse set lists, which he explained to Jimmy Fallon during his appearance on The Tonight Show this week. “We mix it up,” he said. “I don’t ever want to do the same show twice. We’re bringing in some of the more obscure songs, but we do enough of the hits and songs that people know and stuff that we like to do. We’re making it up all the time.”

Joel will be getting his own Sirius XM radio channel for three months starting on March 26th, and has set a May release for A Matter of Trust: The Bridge to Russia, the CD/DVD documenting his groundbreaking 1987 performance in the Soviet Union.

AC/DC is also having something of a moment, with Bruce Springsteen covering their 1979 hit “Highway to Hell” during his Australian tour. Johnson recently revealed that the band will be hitting the studio in May to record new music, in addition to planning a tour to celebrate their 40th anniversary.
