Billie Joe Armstong to Star in ‘American Idiot’ Movie

Billie Joe to Star in ‘American IdiotMovie
Tom Hanks’ production company Playtone Productions has announced that Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong will star as St. Jimmy in the movie adaptation of American Idiot, the stage musical based on the Green Day album of the same name. Armstrong, who starred in the role for the majority of the show’s run on Broadway, is the only star attached to the film so far. The movie is tentatively scheduled for 2013. [Hollywood Reporter]

Lily Allen Is Married and Pregnant
British pop star Lily Allen married her boyfriend Sam Cooper in Gloucestershire, England on Saturday. At the reception, the couple announced that they are expecting their first child later this year. [Us]

Paul McCartney Adds More Tour Dates
Paul McCartney‘s On the Run tour has been extended to include shows at Detroit’s Comerica Park on July 24th, Chicago’s Wrigley Field on July 31st and the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati on August 4th. McCartney has also added a second show at Yankee Stadium in New York City on July 16th. [Press release]

Foo Fighters Expand Arena Tour
The Foo Fighters have added another leg of dates to their North American arena tour. In addition to a previously announced leg in September, the band will hit Denver, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Diego, Oakland and Sacramento before swinging back east for a show at the Prudential center in Newark, New Jersey on November 14th. Cage the Elephant will open for the Foos at all but the Newark show. [Press release]

Thurston Moore Teaching Writing Workshop
Sonic Youth‘s Thurston Moore has announced that he will be teaching a writing workshop at the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. Moore’s seminar, called Economics of the Counter-Culture: Performance, Publishing, Colloboration, will run from July 4-10th. This will be Moore’s first experience as a teacher. [Pitchfork]
