Big Boi and Phantogram Get Funky on ‘Objectum Shalamar’
Big Boi continues to dole out the funk on his new remix series. For this week’s installment of #MashUpMondays, the Dirty South hip-hop pioneer presents “Objectum Shalamar,” a disco makeover to the soulful Phantogram-assisted “Objectum Sexuality” from his 2012 LP, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors.

This new version blends Sir Lucious Left Foot’s frenetic rhymes and Sarah Barthel’s mousey croon over a glitzy sample of disco band Shalamar’s 1982 track “A Night to Remember.” The remix is even more propulsive than the original, utilizing the sample’s greasy, high-treble guitar riff and plenty of glittery keyboards.
Big Boi’s previous remixes include “CPU 2.0” (which features a Sade sample) and “GossipZilla” (which borrows from Blue Oyster Cult). Fans seeking their Big Boi fix (ahead of the long-awaited, 40-date Outkast reunion) can keep up with the #MashUpMondays series at the rapper’s Soundcloud page.
