Beyonce, Jay Z Plot ‘Tidal X: 1015’ Charity Show in New York
Jay Z and Beyoncé have recruited numerous superstars to perform at a charity concert in support of the Robin Hood Foundation. The Lemonade singer will perform alongside Nicki Minaj, Lauryn Hill and Common. The show will take place at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on October 15th and stream exclusively on Tidal.
The concert, titled Tidal X: 1015, will raise money to support education for New York City children, while other as-yet-unnamed charities proposed by the artists will also benefit. “A strong education is one of the best poverty-fighting tools there is,” Robin Hood’s executive director David Saltzman said in a statement. “We’re thrilled that the proceeds from this once-in-a-lifetime benefit concert will support great teachers and strengthen schools. It will undoubtedly be an incredible night for everyone, especially our honored guests: the heroic teachers helping our most vulnerable children escape poverty.”
TIP, DNCE, Emeli Sandé, Blood Orange, Cipha Sounds, Prince Royce and Salva are also part of the initial lineup alongside TIDAL Rising Acts Mark E. Bassy, Lil Yachty, Kevin Garrett, Danielle Bradbery, Sir The Baptist, Bebe Rexha and Levi Carter. Angie Martinez has been tapped to host the concert.
Tidal members and American Express card holders will be able to purchase tickets on September 22nd at 10 a.m. EST while general on-sale begins on September 26th.
“It’s an insane lineup and we’re really thrilled to be a part of it,” DNCE’s Joe Jonas tells Rolling Stone. The band has become involved with Jay Z’s Roc Nation through its partnership with management company Philymac.
Jonas and his bandmates are most excited to see Beyoncé, whom they saw in Toronto when their respective tours coincided. “It was epic! We definitely want to catch her set,” says Jonas. For their own set, DNCE will premiere new music from their upcoming self-titled debut album and will reach out to special guests to make appearances at the Tidal show.
“For a show like that, you’ve gotta put out all the stops,” Jonas adds. “We’ve been talking about it for the last week or two, who we’re gonna reach out to to come out on stage to make it a bit more memorable for everyone.”
This year’s show is a continuation of last year’s “Tidal X: 1020,” another star-studded charity show at Barclays. Minaj, Lil Wayne, Usher, Thomas Rhett, Benjamin Booker, Nick Jonas and more performed in the stacked concert, with all proceeds from ticket sales administrated by the New World Foundation on behalf of Tidal. Proceeds from that concert were distributed among various nonprofit organizations and grassroots movements aimed at community-building and fighting systemic and social injustices.
