Best Coast Detail New Album, Celebrate ‘California Nights’ in Hazy Video

Duo also announce track listing, tour dates for third full-length

Through a short teaser video, Best Coast had previously confirmed the title of their new album California Nights as well as a May 5th release date. Along with a dreamlike new video for the titular first single, the duo have unveiled even more details, including a track listing, tour dates and the inspiration behind their even sunnier new sound.

Produced by Wally Gagel (Miley Cyrus, Muse), the band’s third full-length will be their major label debut following a move to Harvest. Their last release, the 2013 EP Fade Away, came out via Cosentino’s independent Jewel City label.

Cosentino said that her history of insomnia and genuine love for California after dark inspired the album title. “In L.A., or maybe just personally to me, when the sun sets — I feel like there is a large sense of calmness in the air,” the singer said in a statement. “I feel like everything that happened to me prior in the day, whether crappy experiences or good ones, at night, it all goes away and I sink deep into this different kind of ‘world.'”

Directed by Adam Harding, the music video for “California Nights” is as lightly psychedelic as the band’s new sound. Harding focuses on landscape, showing off the beautiful colors of a sunset sky in the desert interspersed with scenes of the bandmates Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno laughing with friends and a yawning cat.

The band has also announced an upcoming tour as well as the full track listing for California Nights. Prior to the tour, the duo will give South by Southwest attendees a taste of what’s to come on their new LP, which already sounds like a huge departure from the fuzzier garage pop of their previous work.

California Nights track listing:

1. “Feeling Ok”
2. “Fine Without You”
3. “Heaven Sent”
4. “In My Eyes”
5. “So Unaware”
