Belly to Reunite for Summer Tour, Release New Music
Nineties dream pop band Belly announced Monday that they’ll reunite later this year for a tour and have begun writing new music.
Belly revealed the news on their official site, though no tour dates have been established. For now, the band did reveal that the summer tour will begin in the UK this July, with U.S. dates being plotted for August and possibly September.
“We’ve also got a handful of brand new Belly songs in various stages of writing and recording that we’ll be releasing one by one over the next few months,” the group promises fans. “First previews will be right here on the website!” They also debuted new merchandise in their official store with T-shirts designed by member Chris Gorman.
Tanya Donelly (Throwing Muses, the Breeders) formed Belly in 1991 with Fred Abong, Thomas Gorman and Chris Gorman. After releasing their 1993 debut LP Star, Abong left the band and was replaced by Gail Greenwood. They released one album with Greenwood, 1995’s King, before breaking up the following year.
After the band’s 1996 breakup, Greenwood went on to play bass in L7, who reunited last year with their pre-Greenwood, original lineup. Donelly pursued a solo career and released four full-length albums between 1997 and 2006. Over 2013 and 2014, she released a series of Swan Song EPs online. According to Spin, the singer also pursued a career as a postpartum doula in the mid-Aughts.
The group has not revealed the involvement, if any, of Abong or Greenwood for the reunion.
