Beck and Strokes Members, Elton John Contribute EODM Charity Covers

Elton John, the Strokes‘ Fabrizio Moretti and Nick Valensi with Beck, Faster Pussycat and 10 more acts are the latest artists to cover Eagles of Death Metal’s “I Love You All the Time” in support of the Sweet Stuff Foundation’s Play it Forward initiative. Check out all 13 new versions of “I Love You All the Time” at the band’s Play it Forward site.

The rollicking Eagles of Death Metal track continues to be radically transformed through the gaze of an eclectic mixture of artists: Beck and the Strokes members put a synthy, sleek splash on the Zipper Down track, while John turns the song into a rousing, show-stopping piano piece. “He turned it into this glorious animal; this beast,” EODM’s Josh Homme tells Rolling Stone of the John cover.

Previous artists to contribute covers include My Morning Jacket, Kings of Leon, Florence and the Machine with the Maccabees, Imagine Dragons, Savages, Ed Harcourt, Dean Ween Group, Chelsea Wolfe, Pearl Jam’s Matt Cameron, Nada Surf, Jimmy Eat World and dozens more.

All proceeds from the Play it Forward Initiative benefit the families of the victims of November 2015 terror attacks in Paris; Eagles of Death Metal were playing at the city’s Bataclan at the time of the attack, with 89 people killed at the venue.

“We are calling upon our friends to donate their time, talent and good will in a show of solidarity to help the victims of these atrocious acts in Paris and those affected by terrorism worldwide,” Homme wrote in late November. “We are asking for you to cover our song ‘I Love You All the Time.’ For every cover sold, we pledge to donate 100 percent of the publishing income to The Sweet Stuff Foundation. We ask that you also donate the money generated from sales of the song to the charity. In the same spirit, we would encourage you to offer one of your songs up to be covered by another artist, and follow suit – donate the publishing monies to charity – the ‘Play it Forward Initiative.'”
