Bat for Lashes Unveil ‘The Bride,’ Chilling New Song ‘In God’s House’
Bat for Lashes, the goth pop project of Natasha Khan, has shared a chilling, shimmering new track, “In God’s House,” which will appear on the upcoming album, The Bride, out July 1st via Parlophone/Warner Bros.
“In God’s House” comes with a simple but striking video, in which Khan’s delicate movements in front of a black background are made choppy and disjointed by a flashing strobe and quick editing cuts. The track itself is a serene synth ballad with ominous undertones captured best by Khan’s vocal performance, which reaches beatific heights even as her lyrics grow more foreboding.
“In God’s House” follows the previously released, “I Do,” which is also the name of a short film Khan wrote and directed that will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in April. The short also served as the inspiration for The Bride, a concept album that tells the story of a woman who embarks on her honeymoon solo after her fiancé dies in a crash on the way to their wedding.
Khan concocted The Bride with a slew of longtime collaborators including Simone Felice, Dan Carey, Head and Ben Christophers. The Bride was recorded in London, Los Angeles, Brighton and a home studio in Woodstock, New York. Khan and Felice (of the Felice Brothers) co-produced the album.
The Bride follows Bat for Lashes’ 2012 album The Haunted Man, as well as Khan’s 2015 collaboration with Toy, Sexwitch. The new record will be available to pre-order via iTunes starting at midnight.
Bat for Lashes will also play a handful of intimate church shows in the lead-up to the release of The Bride. Attendees are encouraged to wear wedding or formal attire, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the David Lynch Foundation. Tickets go on sale March 18th via the Bat for Lashes website, and a complete list of dates is below. Bat for Lashes will also play Coachella in April and Governors Ball in June.
