Band of Horses Cover Fan’s Cover of ‘Part One’

Band inspired by Denai Moore’s stripped-down approach to the song

Band of Horses were so taken by a young fan’s cover of their song “Part One” that they decided to make their own recording of the fan’s version.

Denai Moore, a London-based 20-year-old singer and songwriter with two EPs out, had regularly been performing “Part One” at her live shows in the U.K., and released a recording of her stripped-down take on the song through Soundcloud.

Band of Horses frontman Ben Bridwell happened to be reworking some of the band’s material for an upcoming acoustic tour when he came upon Moore’s cover of the song, from their 2006 debut album, Everything All the Time.

“I’ve been focusing on the acoustic tour we’re doing around this ‘Acoustic at The Ryman’ release. Trying new covers and reworking Horses songs to see what could fit in the more stripped back environment,” Bridwell explained in a post on Facebook. “The other day as i was going about my usual business i came across this cover of our song ‘Pt. One’ done by Denai Moore. I was so taken by her version and the unique spin she brought to it, that it inspired me revisit the song myself. In short, I’m kind of covering her cover of one of my songs. Or something like that. It’s very raw and clumsy but it’s coming from a good place. Much respect to Denai for spreading the good word and doing it beautifully.”

Band of Horses tweeted their version of the song to Moore, who was thrilled by the response. “Holy Moly!!” she tweeted back. “Thanks so much for listening to the cover, it’s one of my favourite songs!”

Band of Horses’ new 10-song live album, Acoustic at the Ryman, is due out on February 11th.
