Avicii Cancels Tour Due to Health Concerns

Avicii has canceled his entire slate of gigs for the remainder of 2014 because of lingering effects of the gall bladder surgery the DJ had in March. Billboard confirmed with Avicii’s reps that health concerns forced Tim Bergling to withdraw from all his upcoming tour obligations. The DJ was scheduled to headline Atlanta’s huge TomorrowWorld EDM festival on September 26th in addition to a residency at Las Vegas’ Encore Beach Club and XS Nightclub. A brief tour of Asia in October was also canceled.
Back in 2012, Avicii was hospitalized for 11 days with acute pancreatitis, and in March 2013, Avicii unexpectedly canceled his Ultra Music Festival appearance in Miami in order to have his gall bladder and ruptured appendix removed. “My fans know that I have had issues in the past with my stomach and pancreatitis…I woke up on Wednesday morning with serious pain but I flew to Miami anyway, hoping that it would go away,” Bergling wrote at the time. The DJ eventually went back on the road in support of his debut True, and while he managed to stay in decent health, 36 of his fans were rushed to the hospital during a June concert in Boston.
Avicii’s reps added that the DJ would head back to his native Stockholm, Sweden to recuperate and “recover the strength and physical well being necessary to resume work on his second album next year,” Billboard reports. Avicii himself has yet to comment on the nixed gigs on social media.
